New Website Launch: The Victoria Inn, Threemilestone

We’re delighted to have launched a brand new website for The Victoria Inn in Threemilestone, near Truro.

The Victoria Inn has been a MiHi Digital client for almost 10 years, and this is now the second iteration of their website that we’ve designed and built.

That long-standing relationship gave us a really good understanding of how the business has evolved, what customers need from the website and where the previous version could now be improved.

The brief this time was to create something more modern, easier to use, easier for the team to manage and better at showcasing everything the pub has to offer - from food and events through to accommodation, vouchers and more.

A clearer journey for customers

One of the main aims of the new site was to make it much easier for visitors to find the information they actually need.

That means clear routes into key areas including:

  • menus and food
  • what’s on
  • accommodation
  • gift vouchers
  • careers
  • gallery
  • Christmas information
  • contact and booking information

The Victoria Inn offers far more than simply somewhere to eat and drink, so the website needed to reflect the full range of reasons people might be visiting.

Built specifically around how the pub operates

Rather than relying on an off-the-shelf website template, we developed a custom WordPress website around the way The Victoria Inn actually works.

Menus have their own dedicated content structure, making them easier to update and organise, while areas such as events, accommodation, vouchers and careers can all be managed directly through the website.

That gives the team much more control over keeping the site current without having to work around a complicated page builder or rigid template.

Making more of food, events and accommodation

A pub website needs to do more than simply look good.

For The Victoria Inn, the website needs to help people decide where to eat, check menus, discover upcoming events, book a table, find accommodation and understand exactly what is available before they visit.

The new site therefore gives much greater prominence to the pub’s food offering, events, accommodation and practical visitor information, while making the overall experience much simpler to navigate.

Designed with search visibility in mind

SEO was considered throughout the rebuild rather than treated as something to add after launch.

The new structure gives important areas of the business their own dedicated pages, improves the relationship between content across the website and gives search engines much clearer information about what The Victoria Inn offers and where it is located.

We also put appropriate redirects in place from the previous website so that existing URLs and search visibility weren’t simply lost when the new site went live.

For a hospitality business with several different reasons for people to visit, having a clear site structure is particularly important. Someone searching for a pub near Truro, somewhere to eat, accommodation, events or venue information may all be looking for the same business for completely different reasons.

Easier for the team behind the scenes

As with all of our custom WordPress builds, we wanted the backend to be straightforward for the people actually using it.

Instead of giving the client a maze of generic editing options, the site has been structured around the content they genuinely need to update.

That means the website should be much easier to keep fresh over the long term - whether that is updating a menu, adding an event, changing accommodation information or promoting something new.

A relationship spanning almost a decade

One of the nicest parts of this project is that it continues a relationship that now spans almost 10 years.

Having already built the previous Victoria Inn website, we’ve been able to see how the business and its digital requirements have changed over time and build the new version around what it needs today.

For us, that kind of long-term relationship is a big part of what we do. Websites aren’t static things, and businesses change. Being able to work with the same client over a number of years means we can keep evolving their digital presence as their needs develop.

Another hospitality website live in Cornwall

Hospitality and tourism websites form a significant part of our work at MiHi Digital, and projects like The Victoria Inn are a good example of why understanding the business behind the website matters.

A pub, restaurant or accommodation website needs to turn a large amount of changing information into something that feels simple for the customer.

For The Victoria Inn, that meant bringing together food, drink, events, accommodation and practical visitor information into one much clearer digital home.
