Developing the right sort of content for your website
Developing the right sort of content for your website
Content was the big word for online marketing last year and this year is going to be no different. Having great content that engages with people through all channels is vitally important; so how is it that you make sure you are producing the right sort of content?
What sort of content do you have on your website?
Take a look at what you have already produced. What has worked well and what hasn’t really worked? Build on what has been popular and successful and produce more, whilst learning from what hasn’t really hit the spot and moving away from it.
Is it of the right level of detail?
This is a key one for a website; understanding the level of detail a visitor is after. This will depend on what it is your site is about and what it is you’re selling. If it was for example a technology product then precise specifications would be expected. If on the other hand it is a holiday cottage, the basic information will be required.
Too much and it can be a turn off. Too little and it can be frustrating.
Do you have the right blend? Visuals, photos, video, text, infographics?
Different people will want to engage with different content. The same person can even want to engage with different content on any given day. This means that having a good blend of all forms of content is important in engaging with the majority of people, the majority of the time.
How often do you update your website?
If you go to a website and it’s not been updated recently or is out of date, what impression do you get? Aside from the benefits from a search engine perspective, people visiting your site will want to know it’s up to date. If they see it is regularly updated they’ll also want to come back.
Keep it fresh and keep them coming back.
How often do you post new news and blogs?
If you don’t have any news then it’s probably not worth having a news or blog section. That said, we think every business has something to say so they should all have this in their website!
You are the driving force behind your business. People buy from people and a blog will give your website and business a voice, a personal touch. As we have also covered above, it will also encourage people to come back time and time again.
