What information will Google Webmaster Tools give you?

GWT will give you a rich amount of information that can aid your website and how Google views and ultimately ranks it.  Below are just some examples of the information and how you can use it to your advantage:

Search Queries

What words are people using to view your site? Valuable information as you can form even more content around these good sources of site traffic, allowing you to provide the information your visitors are searching for.

Site map Information

How many of the pages on your site map are indexed and if there are any issues.  An up to date site map should be on your website to-do list and there are plugins you can use if you are using platforms like WordPress that allow you to have one automatically generated.

The health of your Site

Letting you know any issues you need to address and how often your site is being crawled by Google.  Addressing any issues here will ensure that you are maximising your chances of ranking as highly as possible.

Links to your site

Take a look at who is linking to your website.  Make sure that if you are link building from other sites that you don’t have mass volumes coming from any one domain as Google may view this as unnatural and disregard or penalise those links.

HTML Improvements

Very much a must read and check.  If you have duplicate errors make sure you get on to your website CMS or provider and resolve them.  This way you’ll be maximising your chances of soaring up the rankings.
