MiHi welcomes new team member

Today the MiHi team has grown by one! Joe Brearley has joined us from the University of Plymouth Students’ Union to take up a full-time position as a Digital Marketing Executive. Hailing from South Wales, Joe graduated from the University of Chester, where he studied Sport and Exercise Science with History.
After university, Joe worked for the County Sports Partnership in Worcester, and the University of Plymouth Students’ Union, where he used his knowledge and enthusiasm to promote sport and physical activity to different audiences via digital media.
So, Joe, you have only lived around Devon and Cornwall for two years, how are you finding the area?
I am really enjoying living here! After living in a tiny village in Wales, it’s nice to be somewhere with a lot more going on. It’s also a bonus that I’m not too far from the beach!
What do you get up to on the weekends and during your free time?
Mostly I’m out and about exploring Devon and Cornwall, or playing sport! I like to play as much sport as I can, but mostly rugby and tennis.
What’s your all-time favourite food?
It would have to be fajitas! I’m such a big fan of Mexican food. However, I can’t really say no to a good ol’ Cornish pasty!
What kind of music do you like? Do you have a favourite band or solo artist?
When I was young I was raised on all sorts of music, but mainly stuff that my parents listened to when they were younger; The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Level 42 and Tom Jones. So I think all of those are still high up on my Spotify playlists, but I do like to listen to wide range of things!
Did you have any role models growing up?
I think my two biggest role models growing up were Alan Shearer and Jonny Wilkinson (much to the disgust of my Welsh friends back home!). They were top stars in two sports I loved watching and playing, and when I managed to meet them they were really nice people, which was a bonus really!
Favourite series on Netflix?
Sons of Anarchy. Easily the best series I have ever seen! Other than that, I am excited for both Peaky Blinders and Game of Thrones to return!
And finally, describe yourself in three words.
Enthusiastic, friendly and sociable!
