Devon is home to some of most scenic spots in the UK and if you’re staying in the area you’ll want to know where exactly you can find the best spot for exercising your dog.

No matter if you’re looking for a gentle 30 minute stroll or something to really get the blood pumping, we’re blessed to have an abundance of fantastic walking routes nearby.

Here are just a few ideas to whet your appetite…

Roadford Lake

Just a stone’s throw from Blagdon Manor is Roadford Lake Country Park. Situated between Okehampton and Launceston, the lake has easy access from the A30 and a large parking area. Whether you want a short stroll or longer walk, choose one of the many paths surrounding the lake.

Dartmoor National Park

Covering 368 square miles, Dartmoor National Park has some of the best views of Devon and plenty of space to exercise your dog.

N.B. The park requests all dogs are kept on leads from March 1 to July 31, during the lambing and bird breeding season.

Brentor Church

Situated on the edge of Dartmoor is the historic Brentor Church, which can be seen from miles around.

Just four miles north from Tavistock, park at the bottom and take a climb to the top. Highly recommended for the fantastic views, but make sure you’re ready to make it all the way to the top!

Ruby Country Trail

Blagdon Manor is located in the heart of Devon’s Ruby Country. Known to be very much ‘undiscovered’, why not unearth a slice of it yourself by completing one of the 17 walking trails.

Tamar Valley, West Devon

The Tamar Valley is a designated Area of Natural Beauty and surrounds the rivers Tamar, Tavy and Lynher.

Start at the Tamar Trails Centre, just over 30 minutes from Blagdon Manor, and explore over 25km of walking trails suited for all levels and your dog.

Okehampton

Discover some of West Devon’s hidden gems by starting at the historic town of Okehampton.

Feeling fit? Why not complete the Two Castles route over a period of days or ramble around Meldon Quarry, Dam and Viaduct.

Saunton Sands

Escape to Saunton Sands, North Devon, to enjoy miles of dog friendly beach all year round.

The beach is separated into three zones; Zones B and C are dog friendly. In Zone B leads are required and Zone C, dogs can have free roam without!

Hartland Peninsula

Enjoy the sea air by exploring Hartland Peninsula, part of the South West Coast Path.

There are a series of walks around Hartland Point and the surrounding area, including the Coastal Heritage Walk.

Tarka Trail, North Devon

Make your way into the heart of North Devon for the Tarka Trail, which offers more than 30 miles of walks suitable for all levels.

Whether you’re going from Braunton to Barnstaple, Bideford to Torrington or Barnstaple to Bideford, there are a number of traffic-free paths along the old railway bed.

Haldon Forest

Passing through Exeter en route to Blagdon Manor? Stop off at the 3,500 acre Haldon Forest Park.

Not only does it offer great walking trails for you and your dog, there are plenty of activities to keep children amused too!
